Active Autism

Active Autism

Remaining active is a hugely important part of being healthy – both in terms of physical health, but also mental health. It’s scientifically proven that exercise helps stimulate the feel-good chemicals in the brain, and this can help with managing emotions in Autism and also the co-morbid conditions that come with it, such as anxiety and depression.

We know that there are barriers to entry with exercise and Autism. Whether it’s due to confidence problems around other gym users, co-morbid epilepsy diagnoses or problems leaving the house, we do understand why it’s difficult.

That’s why we’ve done something about it. On our online community, we have an Autistic hill-walking group, but we go above and beyond that in mentoring face-to-face and also provide resources where we can on how you can remain or get active as an Autistic person.

Below is a YouTube clip of of our volunteers, Michael, who goes hill-walking and talks about how it helps him with his mental health.
